FullForce EPDM is the first EPDM membrane in its class to include factory-applied adhesive from edge to edge and eliminate the use of separate in-seam tapes. This innovative technology significantly reduces installation time, waste, and the high VOC content characteristic of traditional adhered systems. This revolutionary technology incorporates new and different application methods and is sensitive to variations in application. In response to market feedback, Holcim Building Envelope has implemented the following measures to aid Applicators in successfully installing FullForce EPDM roofing systems.
- All cartons of FullForce Sealant now include a profiled nozzle tip (30 tips per carton). This new nozzle is ready to use (without cutting) to ensure a correct FullForce Sealant bead profile. The new nozzle also includes a notch to help guide application directly over the seam step-off and ensure sufficient contact with the upper and lower parts of the seam.
Elevate Sales Representatives and Holcim Field Technical Representatives have a limited number of tips to distribute to licensed Elevate applicators for current projects. It is critical to the long-term performance of FullForce EPDM systems that FullForce Sealant is applied to all field seam lap edges by end of each working day.
- An updated FullForce EPDM Installation Video is available on our YouTube™ Channel. The updated video reflects our brand transition to Elevate and includes text and audio voice-over. It is available in English and a Spanish language version will be available in early 2023. Holcim recommends all applicators of FullForce EPDM review this video and reach out to their local Holcim Field Technical Representative with any questions.
- FullForce EPDM installation requirements now include stripping in all end laps with 6" QuickSeam™ Batten Cover or 18" QuickSeam SA Flashing prior to applying FullForce Sealant to seam edges to help prevent movement of the sheet resulting from installation stresses before full adhesion has been achieved. See the updated lap splice details and the updated EPDM Application Guide on www.holcimelevate.com for full instructions.
- FullForce EPDM must be kept dry during storage. Cut off and discard any portion of a roll of FullForce EPDM that has been exposed to moisture. Full storage requirements are included on the FullForce EPDM Technical Information Sheet.
- NEVER fold FullForce EPDM in half to remove the split release liner. Folding the membrane over on itself lengthwise may damage the factory-applied adhesive.
- Refer to the 2022-2023 Cold Weather Application Guidelines on our website for special considerations in cold weather applications.
- Prior to installation, FullForce EPDM must be unrolled and allowed to relax in direct sunlight for a minimum of 30 minutes, and up to one hour in overcast conditions or in cold weather (below 40 F°/4 C°).
- Apply FullForce Sealant to seam edges by the end of each working day.
- Cut the provided dispensing nozzle to create a 1/4" to 5/16" opening and apply FullForce Sealant over both sides of the primed seam in a 3/8" x 1/4" wide bead.
- Keep the applicator tip centered over the seam edge. The sealant bead must contact the upper and lower parts of the step-off.
- Do not tool, thin, or spread FullForce Sealant.
- A battery gun is required to ensure consistent, even application.
When inclement weather is expected, apply Elevate primer to all seam edges before leaving the project. On the next working day, clean, prime, and seal all seams as described above.
