Brand new office and event space with a rustic look

Jet Import is a leading distributor of premium beverages in the Benelux. Located in Menen (Belgium) close to the French border, they were facing the challenge of expanding to accommodate the demand of a growing business. They were looking for a unique multifunctional space combining offices with an event venue. Ghent-based architectural firm Goedefroo + Goedefroo Architecten came up with an innovative concept: a building they named "The Barn", consisting of a structure that would capture the rustic ambiance of a traditional barn, but built using a hybrid combination of concrete and steel.

Quality Roofing, an Elevate authorized contractor, was entrusted with the task of installing the roofing system. The choice of EPDM as roofing material was driven by several factors: the project needed a flexible and durable waterproofing solution that could seamlessly envelop the complex details of the building while ensuring long-lasting protection. Furthermore, it had to adhere well to the wooden substructure and exhibit sufficient vapor permeability. Approximately 1,000 square meters of Elevate’s RubberGard EPDM membrane were used on this project, fully adhered to the support. The membrane was  supplied by Modde, distributor of Elevate products in West Flanders.

Following the application of the EPDM waterproofing, approximately 1,200 linear meters of barnwood planks were fastened to the roof surface as final covering. Since the fasteners to secure the barnwood planks perforated the EPDM membrane, all these battens were first given a waterproof finish with molded membrane.

Barnwood is reclaimed wood sourced from old barns. The barnwood planks used in The Barn were sourced from various locations such as Austria, Switzerland, Italy, India, Slovenia, Canada, and Spain. This standout feature provided an agricultural and rustic appearance to the otherwise modern building.

Freedom of design is key to those creating big things. Thanks to its flexibility and availability in big, single-ply sheets, EPDM supports creative solutions. It also enables future transformations and placing new objects on the roof.

LONGEVITY

EPDM roofing membranes last for at least 50 years and their structure and elasticity remain unchanged. They can be easily repaired, which allows them to last even longer. No doubt: EPDM is the most durable roofing material available.
